Oldies Vibes: Thoughts on 90s Movies (Sleepless in Seattle, 1993)

I have watched some 90s movies which had Meg Ryan as the main character. One of my favorites is "Sleepless in Seattle". In this movie, Meg Ryan played as a woman named Annie Reed who fell in love with a guy through a radio program called Sleepless in Seattle. The guy, Sam Baldwin, who was played by Tom Hanks told his story of his wife through the phone call to the radio. His wife died from cancer and he told how he loved his wife. Annie was listening to that radio program in her car and amazed by how Sam spoke about his love for his wife.
At that moment, Annie was engaged to Walter (Bill Pullman). She was happy to be in love with him. She spent the Christmas Eve with him and his family.
She kept listening to the radio program and waiting for Sam to share his stories. She couldn't stand that she cared about him and wish that she could meet him. Although she has never seen his face, she believed that she fell for him. She was wondering about her feelings that she couldn't just let go of.
Annie, who lived in Baltimore, wrote a letter to Sam who lived in Seattle. The letter was received by Sam's son, Jonah. Annie hoped to meet them at the top of Empire State on Valentine's Day. Jonah wanted to meet her and convinced his dad to let them go to New York. Sam insisted that. He said that he's not going on a date with a woman he never met. He already had someone to go on a date with.
Annie had decided to fly to Seattle. Although she didn't know how sam looked like, she found out his address and hope to meet him. When she arrived at the airport, Sam and Jonah were there too. Sam was in a conversation with Jonah and telling him that there's no such thing as perfect when Annie walked by. Sam was amazed by her since the first time he saw her. He didn't know that she was the one Jonah has been convincing him to call. She caught his eyes but she didn't know that it was Sam.
In my opinion, this scene led this story to the climax. They never met each other. Annie fell for him cause she was amazed by what she heard from him without regard of how he looked. Sam was amazed by her the first time he saw her face. I guess it might be true what people say that men fall in love through their eyes and women through their ears.
As Annie arrived at Sam's house, she hadn't found the guts to make an appearance. She hid behind the car and looked out at Sam playing with Jonah on the road side. When she tried to reach out, Sam noticed her. He said hello and she said it back.
On Valentine's Day, Jonah went to New York even though his dad wouldn't let him go. He arrived at the top of Empire State but he didn't find Annie yet. He unintentionally left his backpack at the top of the building. When he came back to get it back with Sam, who came to New York eventually, they met Annie. Annie was having a dinner with her fiancee that night but she chose to come to where she wish Sam would come. She came to Empire State when it was about to close. She insisted on getting in and she found Jonah's backpack. Jonah and Sam came afterward.
This scene was the best scene where I could say that serendipity worked. Just like some scenes before that brought them to meet by fate. Sam said, "It's you". Annie replied, "It's me". Jonah asked if she's Annie and she said yes. The security gave them a sign to leave. Sam reached for Annie's hand and they left the building.

Well, nice ending though. Simply amazing. I always love this kind of movies that show how love is brought by fate. Serendipity plays a role.
